Under 14 Football Academy Squad

This group of players would have come through the U13 Programme in 2015. The year started out with low attendances but gradually picked up to a steady panel of 56 players. We started the year off very well with big victories over Longford and Clare in the National blitz in Longford. We carried two teams that day and both teams won two games each. Training was now well attended and we prepared well for the next blitz in Laois. Once again to make sure we were providing games for everybody we entered two teams in Laois and performed extremely well by defeating Laois. The players by now were beginning to form a great bond and friendship. The Squad travelled to UCD for a Workshop held by Ger Brennan. The Players were given a detail presentation on Achieving excellence and Nutrition presentation followed by a coaching session given by Ger Brennan and a relaxing recovery session in the UCD swimming pool.

Our next Blitz was at home to Longford and Wexford but despite missing a few players due to summer holiday the lads acquitted themselves quite well. We finished off the year by travelling to Meath to play Meath in two games. On a very wet and windy night in Dunganny, Wicklow and Meath shared the spoils winning one game each.

With the Under 14 Championship in full swing we took a break to let the players concentrate playing with their clubs. It’s amazing to think that we had three teams at under 14 level that won National Feile Titles during the year and none of them reached the County U14 Football final. This is just a reminder of what a strong group of players we have available at this age group.

We will commence a winter Strength & Conditioning programme shortly and organise a few games to keep this squad ticking over during the winter. This group of players are really talented although many of our players also play other sports. The challenge now is to retain and add to this panel in 2017. In fairness there are not too many players out there that the management have not seen during the year. As all of our coaches are involved at this age group at club level and it make it easier to identify players.

We would like to acknowledge the continued, valued support of Glen Fuel Services which allows us provide for our players. We wish the company continued success & we look forward to strengthening our partnership in the years ahead.

2016 Management Team: Hugh Kenny, Kevin Healy, Paul Fox, Tom Fee and Gerry Browne. S&C – Gary Jameson. GDA Coordinator – Hugh Kenny.
